Dancing Disaster!

You know how there are just some things that it seems like no matter how hard you try, they just go wrong? That was my ward activity tonight. Here's the story in it's entirety.
Middle of December...
So the activities committee just pulled off our first ward activity, the Christmas party. Huge success! I really didn't hear a negative comment from anyone. It went great! Our next meeting we start planning our next couple of activities. We decided to do a ballroom dancing social around Valentines Day, and to get tickets for the Draper Temple Open House. The tickets we got for the Temple Open House are for February 28th, so we chose to move the dancing social up to January. It's not a huge activity, and we had a month and a half to plan...plenty of time to throw it together! I called and scheduled the Stake Center (my home building) for January 31st. I then coordinated with the Young Men/Young Women to have it be their activity night. We invited those 14 and up to participate and the beehives and deacons to serve the refreshments. I lined up the achievement day girls to provide a nursery, and we were set!
The first week of January I got a call from the guy who schedules the Stake Center to inform me that the building would not be available that night. I guess mens basketball is more important. So now what?
Since I had already made arrangements with so many of the different auxiliaries, I chose to move buildings. I called the lady in charge of scheduling the Elwood building, and it was open! I booked it from 5:30 to 9:00. The activity was to start at 6. I confirmed dates and times and she wrote down my name and number, and that was it.
Tonight...
I got to the Elwood building at 5:30 and we started setting up tables and some chairs. My phone rings. It is a lady from the Elwood 2nd Ward who is over scouting, and they are supposed to have the building for a pinewood derby...in the gym! I guess when I scheduled the building she didn't write it down on the right day or something. We called her, and she has no recollection of even talking to me. I was getting frustrated. I really didn't know what to do. I knew that I had talked to the lady and scheduled the building, but it wasn't my building, so I could see why we should leave too. I thought about just crying.
Well, as it turned out, they were able to shorten the track and fit it in the primary or relief society room (I'm really not sure which one). They said that they had a good time, and that it was fine, but I'm still upset about everything. I feel bad that they had to change their activity for ours. I'm grateful, but still a little frustrated about all of it.
Besides the building mishap, the activity was AWESOME! I had a great time being able to dance with Ricky...being close to him and having fun. We had about 15 couples show up and our dance instructor taught us the waltz and the cha cha. The gym is smaller, so the attendance was perfect! Everyone who came had a GREAT time, and it was a great date night. The nursery was wonderful, and the Beehives and Deacons did an awesome job with the desserts! Thanks to everyone who helped, and all of you who came to support the Activities Committee! We just might have to do it again...in OUR building!! :)

Simply Fun!

Simply Fun is a company that sells games through parties...like Mary Kay. The games are really quite fun and they are different from any games you will find in the stores. They make games geared toward children, families, and adults. Ricky and I like to play games, and there is a guy in my ward who sells these Simply Fun games...so I am having a party!
If any of you are not busy on Saturday morning, January 31st at 10:00...come to my house! There are lots of games to choose from, and it should be pretty fun. No obligation, and no hard feelings...but if anyone wants to come, or if you want to order any games, let me know!

Time flies when you're having fun!

I can't believe how big my kids are getting! They are so smart, and they are at an age that is SO MUCH FUN! In March, Kassi will be 3 and Tyler will be 18 months. I just can't believe Tyler has been in our family for a year and a half, and yet, I can't believe he was ever NOT part of our family. Same goes for Kassi! They are great kids, and I am blessed to be their mother. Some days are better than others, but it really is the greatest job!
Anyway...we kept Kassi in the crib until she was 18 months. The only reason we moved her out was because Ty was ready to move in. I had every intention of keeping Tyler in the crib until he was about 2. About 2 weeks ago we had Ricky's family over for dinner. One of Kassi's cousins taught her how to climb into the crib and I found them both in there jumping. They were having a grand time. I pulled them out, and thought that would be the end. How wrong I was. For the past two weeks, every time I have gone in there...morning, afternoon naps, and bedtime, Kassi has thrown all of her babies in the crib and climbed in with Ty. Poor Ty has been woken up many times by his loving sister wanting to share his bed.
So our dilemma...move Kassi downstairs into her own room, or get Tyler a big bed. Our house has 4 bedrooms, 2 upstairs and 2 down. The thought of one of my babies sleeping all by themselves in the dark, cold basement is what led to the kids sharing a room. They are just too little to be that far away from me! :) So, Tyler got a big bed! I didn't think it would affect me, but it has been a little hard. It just seems like they grow so fast as it is, and we are pushing that process along. However, the kids loved it! They climbed and jumped all over it, ya know...breaking it in. Ty did pretty good last night, I guess. When Ricky and I went to bed he was on the floor, and I put him back in bed, about 1:00 I had to go put him back in bed, and when I went into get them this morning he was on the pillows on the floor again. Silly boy! He did do better during his morning and afternoon naps though, so I think he will be just fine! Here are some pics of his big boy bed!
I don't know if Ty really cares about the Cars bedding that Ricky picked out, but Kassi sure loved it!
Here are both of my cute (big!) kids! I think Kassi thinks that both beds are hers. haha!

Update!

Happy New Year! I love the beginning of a new year and thought I would give a quick update of what we have been up to so far in 2009!

We ended up having to get a new furnace after Christmas. Kind of expensive, but definitely worth it!! We had them do the piping for central air too, which will be great! In 2007, when I was pregnant with Ty ALL summer (he was born the end of Sept) and Utah had the hottest summer on record, I thought I was going to die. The old, loud swamp cooler just couldn't keep up with the blistering heat and it was unbearable. It would be in the 70's when I'd wake up and it would still be in the 80's most of the time when I would go to bed between 10:30 and 11. Last summer I wasn't pregnant, and it just wasn't nearly the same record heat as the year before, and the swamp cooler worked just fine. Central air will for sure be better though!!
As for the other expenses from Christmas day...well, let's just say this was a VERY expensive Christmas. Considering there were 4 ER visits, 4 ambulance rides, 2 blood draws, and a doctor bill...it definitely could have been worse. We are counting our blessings every night and we should be able to get everything paid in a relatively quick manner. (that's a new year's resolution anyway!)
For more good news, last night was the first night of the first semester back to school for Ricky and I. It went really well. Our neighbor agreed to watch our kids while we are gone, and they were sound asleep when we got home. The classes are good warm up classes for what's coming and I think they will help us get into the routine of homework and tests without being overwhelming our first semester. Here are pics of us on the way to class!! :)
Kinda dark, but he IS smiling! I was way more excited...but I am kinda a nerd like that. I have started thinking about and getting excited for what classes I want to take this summer and fall too!
Other than that, things are back to normal...busy busy busy! Ricky is thankful to have lots of work, and I am still babysitting on Mon & Tues and then working at the local Steakhouse as a waitress on Fridays and Saturdays. (Not always both nights)
Christmas morning taught me a TON about what is really important and even though life might be a little crazy right now...it's LIFE! and I'm LOVING IT!!

Happy New Year!
